I adopted the cat I have now from next door, almost 4 yrs ago, She 13 & a half..Recently, she has become very anxious & clingy, Getting under my feet constantly, & seems extrememly unsettled... My previous cat, behaved in a similar way, from 13 yrs onwards... Is it a coincidence, or is there a reason..? x
Older cats can develop senility just like humans can, and is recognised by changes in behaviour such as: An increase in how vocal they are (sometimes meowing at night), looking confused i.e. walking into a room and stopping as though they have forgotton why they came in, inappropriate urination/defecation in the house (forgetting where to go )
I would advise getting your cat checked at your vets to rule out any medical reason for the altered behaviour. Once any cat reaches 10 it is a good idea to run some routine blood tests to check for things such as kidney disease and thyroid problems. They will also be able to discuss age related behavioural changes in more detail.
having had a cat that lived till nearly 20 they do become more clingy as they get older my cat never did this till she was 18+ tho, but like us they are all different
Could it be there's a new cat on the block who is crowding their territory? Our two are having a battle with a big black cat and she makes them very twitchy when she's on their patch.
