My cat seems to prefer to lie down rather than sit. What could be wrong?

My cat is 8 years old and seems to prefer to lie on her side to sitting. When she does sit it is not for long and her front legs seem to 'wobble'. She normally only lies on her right side too. Is she in some kind of pain when sitting?
Is this the same cat with the kidney problems as if so that could be contributing, it could well be normalfor your cat to prefer to lie on her side, do you ever see her grooming as usually cats sit up to groom, I would recommend just for peace of mind getting her checked over by your vet to rule out that she isn't in pain. In the short term you could try a little bit of cod liver oil, initially it can make the stools a bit softer but once she is on it longer term its not usually a problem
