re flu jab bad reaction
Asked by Debbie D | 1 Answer
my big boy has such a bad reaction to flu jab, wont go out pees on sofa and bed and is really very very ill. i havnt had any of them jabbed for ages but as i am moving they may have to go in to cattery so will have to be done
I am sorry to hear about th reaction, rather than a reaction to the jab I wonder if the symptoms he displayed were stress related to the vsit to the vets. It tends to be the leukaemia part of the vaccine we see reactions to rather than the flu part (which is needed for the cattery).
I can answer this question as a vet and as an owner as one of my cats reacts as well she is very lethargic, barely moves, feels cold and is really miserable for about 48 hours unfortunately having seen cats with cat flu and leukaemia I think the risk of vaccinating her outweighs the possibilities of being unwell.
Unfortunately if you have gone over 15 months you may need to restart the course which will involve a course of two injections 3 weeks apart. It might be worth finding out how much your vet charges for a house visit and getting the cats vaccinated at home may help with the problem especially if it is stress related x
